If you read our blog last month about your accountant not meeting your needs and came to the conclusion you need to fire your accountant, you must read this blog. I will be sharing with you simple steps on how to fire your accountant.
- Hire a new accountant. The most important thing you need to do is to make sure you have a new accountant lined up. Make sure to keep them in the loop on the firing process. If you feel more comfortable having them retrieve your files from your previous accountant, you can do so.
- Check your records for any agreement you may have with your previous accountant. If you had an agreement that indicates anything about the termination process, it is important to follow those steps.
- Send a letter to your previous accountant informing them, effective immediately, they are terminated and are to stop working on anything they may currently be working on for you. You do not need to tell them the reason for the termination. But within the letter, either request they get you all of your files, or inform them that their successor will be contacting them for the files and ask them for their full cooperation.
Keep in mind, even though you are firing them, if they completed a project for you and you still owe them, you must pay your bills in full.
Firing someone is never easy, but if it’s necessary it must be done. You must think of your business first and foremost. One thing you must remember is to handle the situation in a professional manner.
